El Centro Cultural Latinoamericano de Queens y el Concilio de Mujeres Latinoamericanas de Queens invitan a la vigésima sexta celebración annual del Mes de la Historia de la Mujer. Este evento honra mujeres de la historia latinoamericana y mujeres que están haciendo historia hoy. Este año el premio lleva el nombre de la ilustre Berta Maria Julia Lutz. Esta prominente mujer nació el 2 de Agosto de 1894 en Sao Paulo, Brasil. Fué una científica, abogada y una de las figuras pioneras del feminismo en Brasil. En 1922 fundó la Federación Brasileña para el Progreso Femenino, iniciando la lucha por el sufragio de las mujeres brasileñas. También fundó la Universidad de la Mujer y creó la Liga Electoral Independiente. En 1948, fué una de las cuatro mujeres delegadas que firmó la Declaración Universal de los Derechos Humanos aprobada por las Naciones Unidas al término de la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Este año serán premiadas las siguientes líderes: Hon. Helen M. Marshall, Presidente del Condado de Queens; Hon. Julissa Ferreras, Miembro del Concejo de la Ciudad de Nueva York D21 Hon. Elsa Gladys Cifuentes Aranzazu, Cónsul General Central de Colombia; Hon. Miriam Estrada-Castillo, J.D.,Asesora Legal y Política, Comité contra el Terrorismo ONU; y Hon. Venecia Fernandez, Asuntos Intergubernamentales Contralor Estado de Nueva York Thomas P. DiNapoli. La ceremonia de premiación también tendrá la participación de la Soprano Ilya Martinez y el Baritono Rafael LeBron, con el acompañamiento del Pianista Octavio Brunetti.

The Latin American Cultural Center of Queens and the Latin American Women’s Council invite you to the 26th Annual Celebration of Women’s History Month. This event honors women from Latin American history and recognizes women who are making history today. This year’s award is named after the illustrious Berta Maria Julia Lutz. This prominent woman was born on August 2, 1894 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She was a scientist and an attorney who became a leading figure of the feminist movement in Brazil. In 1922 she founded the Brazilian Federation for Feminine Progress, beginning the struggle for women’s suffrage in Brazil. She also founded the Women’s University and created the Independent Electoral League. In 1948, she was one of four women delegates who signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations following the Second World War.
This year’s award will be presented to five exceptional leaders: Hon. Helen M. Marshall, Queens Borough President; Hon. Julissa Ferreras, New York City Council Member D21; Hon. Elsa Gladys Cifuentes Aranzazu, Consul General of Colombia in New York; Hon. Miriam Estrada-Castillo, J.D., Legal and Political Officer, UN Counter Terrorism Committee; and Hon. Venecia Fernandez, Intergovernmental Affairs, NYS Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The award ceremony will be complemented by a special artistic presentation by Ilya Martinez, Soprano and Rafael LeBron, Baritone with the accompaniment of Pianist Octavio Brunetti.
